Simple Irish chain table runner

When we moved to our current home a few years ago, we discovered that for the first time we had lilacs! Yes, I really like lilacs : ) Such a pleasant site after a long, cold, dreary winter.

And every spring since we have picked bouquets and bouquets of lilacs, and every spring since I have made plans to make a green and white runner. Let's face it. Runners should coordinate with the flowers : )

This year it got done! One of my daughters has been wanting me to do a simple Irish chain quilt so I tried it with this little table runner. Don't you just love the simplicity?!

The plan was to keep it simple with just green and white, but I did add a bit of interest and fun by selecting two different prints of Lollipop Garden by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics.  Doesn't that dot print make a fun binding?

This little quilted table runner made a perfect backdrop for the lilacs this year. So, so pretty (and such a lovely scent filled the house!)

Straight-line diagonal grid quilting - again, to keep it simple. Love how the quilting adds just the right finishing touch.

Cute little rolled quilt - those dots on the binding make me smile : ) So fun!

Looks beautiful and perfect with roses, too!

Edited to add -

  3. Blocks finish at 4 1/2 , means square the 9 patch to 4 1/2 sewing?

    1. Hi! No, the block by itself is 5" x 5" so square it to 5" x 5". Finished means sewn together within the quilt top. Does that make sense?
